The 13th annual Fountain Tire Barrel Ex at the Exhibition Grounds was on my agenda for the weekend but before I ventured over to the exhibition grounds I looked up ‘Horse’ in Wikipedia in an attempt to gain some quick knowledge and try and impress people with my wit and skill.
Did you know there are more than 300 breeds of horses? I didn’t. I just call everything “horsie” and keep my knowledge of the beautiful animals to a bare minimum.

I really have no knowledge regarding a rodeo either but I love to watch. Every summer when we were younger, my sister and I would head to Rocky Mountain House, Alberta and stay with the grandpa who raced chuckwagons. Not sure if we were a help or a hindrance, but we thought we were doing a great job by telling each horse how special they were, how fast they were and how much we loved them.
My sister continued her love of horses and was able to turn her passion into a job as an Equine Therapist. She owns a couple of horses and is at many rodeos and events around Saskatchewan. I continue to just tag along and tell all the horses I like them a lot.
All the pretty horses.
Some of the events featured at the Fountain Tire Barrel Ex are pole-bending, bareback barrel racing, and horses vs. bikes. It was once again a great turnout, looking forward to it again next year.
If you want to get your “horsie” fix make sure you take in the CCA Rodeo in Estevan coming up on August 23rd & 24th. It’s a chance to see barrel racers, tie-down ropers, bronc and bull riders and get two-stepping at the cabaret!
Get out there and #ExperienceEstevan.
