Step-by-Step Instructions for Hosting a Neighbourhood Block Party
Step 1: Planning and Organizing
- Form a Planning Committee: Gather a few neighbours to help plan the event.
- Choose a Date and Time: Select a convenient date and time for the majority.
- Decide on a Location: Opt for a street or yard. If using a public park, remember to obtain a permit for $25.
- Set a Budget: Determine costs and consider any contributions or sponsorships.
Step 2: Register and Reserve
- Register Your Event: Let the City of Estevan know about your event, especially if you require a barricade or special arrangements.

Step 3: Permits and Licenses
- Street Closure Permit: If you need to close your street, apply for a permit. The City provides barricades.
- Noise By-law Information: Check local noise regulations to ensure compliance.
- Liquor License: If serving alcohol, obtain the necessary SLGA Liquor License.
Step 4: Invitations and Promotion
- Create Invitations: Use templates from your confirmation kit, sent by the Leisure Services Manager, to invite neighbours.
- Promote Your Event: Spread the word through social media, invitations and word of mouth.
Step 5: Event Preparation
- Pick Up the Kit: Collect the Neighbourhood Block Party Kit from the information desk the business day before your event.
- Set Up: Arrange the games, icebreaker activities, and other materials.
- Food and Drinks: Plan for snacks, meals, and beverages. Coordinate with local grocery stores for discounts.
Step 6: During the Event
- Welcome Neighbours: Greet attendees and encourage participation.
- Facilitate Activities: Use the kit’s contents to keep everyone engaged.

BLOCK PARTY ACTIVITY KITS
The block party activity kits include a variety of equipment for all age groups to encourage activity and friendship connections.
The kits will be provided on a first come first serve basis after the application forms are complete and approved. They can only be utilized for one day events.
The kits can be picked a day before the event after all the required application forms are completed and signed. They must be picked up and returned during office hours:
Monday – Friday
9am – 12pm or 1pm – 4pm

All items must be returned the next business day following your event in clean condition and wiped off with mild soap and water. Any damages or breakage must be reported during drop-off.
In each kit you will find:
- Games and sporting equipment for all ages.

- Sidewalk chalk with a list of games and activities.
- Scavenger hunt search sheets.
- Participant name tags.

How much does it cost to host a block party?
The Neighbourhood Block Party Kits are free. If hosting in a public park, a $25 permit is required.

How do I reserve a Block Party Kit?
Reserve a kit through the City website. It can be picked up the business day before your event and must be returned by 12:00 p.m. the next business day.
Can we serve alcohol at the block party?
Alcohol is not permitted in public parks. If hosting in another area, ensure you have the necessary SLGA Liquor License.
What if we need to close our street?
