Water Meters
The City of Estevan provides water and sewer services to approximately 4,000 water meters.
Meter Reads
Water Meters are billed bi-monthly and read every billing period. The City of Estevan operates radio read water meters. These allow the Utilities Department access to read meters without entering owner’s property.
How to read your meter
To read your meter, you must shine a flashlight on your display screen. The screens are solar powered and will display under light.
Save $$
Leaky toilets are the biggest culprits in causing high water bills. Often these leaks cannot be seen or heard. To test if you have a leaky toilet can be easily done. Place some food coloring in the back of the tank WITHOUT FLUSHING THE TOILET. If after several minutes any of the food coloring shows in the toilet bowl you have a leak. If you have more than one toilet, test them all.
To check for bigger leaks:
- Turn off main valve. If meter continues to move there may be a valve problem.
- Turn off valve and if noise stops, you may have a leak.
- If you notice a wet spot in your yard there may be an outside leak.
- To determine whether water is leaking, be sure to turn off all water consumption devices. Then go look at your water meter if the dials continue to raise you most likely have a leak.
