Budget
One of the most important administrative tools, a budget serves also as a plan of action for achieving quantified objectives, a standard for measuring performance and a device for coping with foreseeable adverse situations.
The City of Estevan uses the budget as an estimate of costs, revenues and resources from January 1st through December 31st. The Budget is worked on in late fall of each year and finalized and approved by council in late December.
Operating Budget
The operating budget is usually prepared annually, based on estimates of income and expenses associated with the City’s operations. Since it is a short-term budget, long term items such as capital debt and income not associated with operations, such as investments, are excluded.
Capital Budget
The capital budget is prepared in conjunction with the operating but is a plan to finance long –term outlays, such as; fixed assets like facilities and equipment.
