So it’s May Long

May Long, also known as Victoria Day, is the long weekend in May where the weather is capable of doing anything! It can be sunny and gorgeous, raining, or even worse…snowing. But still, there are tons of things to do – no matter the weather! I’ve been a resident of Estevan for many years, and LOVE staying home to enjoy the first long weekend of the summer here in Estevan.

Here is my list of the top 5 things to do in Estevan on a long weekend.

1. Take in a round of golf

Hit the links at either Hidden Valley or TS&M Woodlawn Golf Club. A bad day of golf is still a good day! Even if the weather isn’t ideal, at least you’re golfing.

2. Check out the Farmers Market

On Saturday mornings all summer long the Estevan Farmers Market is open at the Estevan Shoppers Mall Parking Lot. If you are like me, you have been waiting patiently to plant flowers. They have local greenhouses with locally grown flowers for sale. AND grab some homemade baking, buns, and locally made jam!

3. Go fish!

If it’s raining, you could play cards, or venture out to Boundary or Rafferty Dam, cast a line and try to catch a fish. Rumour has it, Largemouth Bass are easier to find when it’s raining.

4. Grab a coffee and go to the Dog Park

Take Fifi, Fido, or in my case Kaiser, to the Dog Park located at Woodlawn Regional Park. From there you can venture out and enjoy Preddy Trails, the parks trail system that covers many kms of hiking under their maple trees.

5.  Beat a friend at Pickleball

Pickleball. Yes, pickleball is my new favourite sport. Rental equipment and booking information is available at the Information Desk at the Estevan Leisure Centre. No skill required to play the game! (Trust me)

Other possibilities include; races at the Estevan Motor Speedway,  looking at pioneer items at the Souris Valley Museum, or catching a movie at the Orpheum Theatre with a large popcorn, extra butter.

Whatever it is you decide to do this long weekend, make sure you #ExperienceEstevan to its fullest!

Till next time!

I am looking forward to sharing my interests with the folks of Estevan, which include coffee, my dog Kaiser, the outdoors, staying active, and being selectively cheap. There are some great options in Estevan if the last three appeal to you. I spend quite a bit of my free time working out at the track at Affinity Place, utilizing the equipment at Fresh Air Fitness, and touring the trails and walking paths throughout the city.

I think my personality shines through in my experiences and hope you enjoy my wit and sense of humor.

  • THE Horse Race

Each year we descend on TS&M Woodlawn Golf Course for the Dave Price Memorial Horse Race, as it is now called. A horse race in golf is not unique, it’s played all over, but if you aren’t familiar it might seem a little whacky.

  • YEE to the HAW

The 13th annual Fountain Tire Barrel Ex at the Exhibition Grounds was on my agenda for the weekend but before I ventured over to the exhibition grounds I looked up ‘Horse’ in Wikipedia in an attempt to gain some quick knowledge and try and impress people with my wit and skill.

  • Every Day is a Beach Day

We headed to the beach. We packed light; a couple of shovels, a bucket, a plastic bat and ball, two towels and a life jacket.

  • Let’s Go Fishing

We have a family tradition that the person with the least amount of fish caught, has to buy everybody McDonald’s coffee (we love our coffee).
