Ok, it was not a race with other people but a race with the rest of my family. Also, they were in a canoe, and I was in a kayak. The rest of my family says I can’t brag about my racing ability because I was just one person. I say GAME ON.
We love the water
I challenged the kids and Curtis to a race. We had to paddle to the big tree across the water and back. I’m not sure how many knots or kilometers or whatever it is you measure distance in water, but it was a lot of strokes of the paddle.
I had them beat from the start and was there and back before Curtis and the kids even got to the tree. I’m not sure if it’s because they only had one efficient paddler and he didn’t know the best strategy in coaxing the others to paddle harder, or if canoes are a lot slower than kayaks. Either way, #mummawins
THE BEST WATER
1. Boundary Dam Beach
2. Souris River
3. Rafferty Dam
4. RM of Estevan Aquatic Centre
5. Playpark Paddling Pools
6. Splash Pads
Afterward, we paddled along the shoreline looking at neat rock formations, checking out driftwood and talking about different types of birds that live in holes in the rocks.
I adore moments like this. When life seems to stand still, and we get to appreciate our surroundings. The kids ask questions and learn by experiencing rather than reading it or watching it on tv or electronics.
Get out there and Experience Estevan,
We love combing the shore of Boundary Dam, looking for interesting driftwood, skipping rocks, trying to climb the hills on the shore line.
Kayak on the Souris
Dock your Kayak or Canoe in the FREE day park at Woodlawn Regional Park and head down the Souris River. We love the peace and calm.
Look Mom! No Hands!
Paddle boarding is a blast on whatever body of water you choose. Lakes, rivers, etc. Make sure you test the water before you go because your feet get wet!
