Urban Forestry

The City of Estevan has approximately 6000 trees on City property. These are monitored for health and signs/symptoms of diseases of insect’s infestations.

The Urban Forestry program works closely with the Ministry of Agriculture to monitor beetle populations, most notably the elm betel, the vector known to carry Dutch elm disease. It is very important to abide by the regulations concerning Dutch elm. Our American elm population is an important asset to the beauty of our City and we want to ensure they are protected. Dutch Elm is around us and we had positive incidents in the past but are fortunate to hold off any epidemic levels of the disease to this point. Following the regulations and avoiding pruning during the ban will help us save our trees.
