Mayor Sernick recently presented the formerly-used Garrish Place street sign to Chris Garrish, great-grandson of former Mayor Arthur Garrish.
Arthur Garrish served as Mayor of Estevan from 1924 to 1925, and Garrish Place was later named in recognition of his service and has remained a meaningful connection to Estevan for generations of the Garrish family.
Earlier this year, Chris contacted the City to ask whether the family could receive the sign when it was replaced, offering to cover the replacement cost.
City Council unanimously supported this request and more than a century after Arthur Garrish served our community, we were pleased to help place this small, but meaningful, piece of Estevan’s history into the hands of his family.
