Dutch Elm Disease Survey – June 19 & 20

The City of Estevan has contracted Living Tree Environmental Ltd. to carry out Dutch elm disease (DED) surveillance in our community on June 19 and 20, 2025.

Living Tree staff will be inspecting public and private properties for signs of DED in American elm trees and checking for any violations of the Saskatchewan DED Regulations (2005). When necessary and safe, branch samples may be collected from symptomatic trees.

DED is spread by elm bark beetles, root grafting, and improperly sanitized pruning tools. The movement of elm firewood is strictly prohibited and remains a major contributor to the spread of this disease.

Living Tree personnel will obtain permission before entering private property. We appreciate your cooperation in helping to protect Estevan’s urban forest.
