Estevan, SK (March 13, 2024) – The City of Estevan is pleased to announce that the community has received approval for $7.75 million in funding through the federal government’s Canada Coal Transition Initiative (CCTI) Infrastructure fund, administered through PrairiesCan. The confirmation from PrairiesCan on this allocated funding was received by city administration on February 29th and was an approved motion by council during the March 11th City Council meeting.
“Our government’s collaboration with the City of Estevan has resulted in a significant federal investment in downtown revitalization. Downtowns and Main Streets are important social and business hubs for the community,” said Dan Vandal, Minister for PrairiesCan. “I extend my congratulations to the City for moving ahead on a generational project that will attract businesses and investments into the region, creating good paying jobs and contributing to a strong economy.”
“The City of Estevan is thrilled about the downtown revitalization project. This has been a significant pillar of City Councils’ strategic initiative to upgrade infrastructure and beautify the city. This project is key to ensuring our downtown core can be a vibrant hub where residents can gather, socialize, and foster a stronger sense of community, ” said City Manager, Jeff Ward. “This project will implement a beautiful urban landscape, and will provide a much-needed boost to local businesses, while creating a thriving downtown economy.”
The City had previously received allocations from the CCTI Infrastructure fund, in contribution to this project, of $150,925 in September 2021 for the conceptual plan completed by George Harris Collaborative, followed by $750,000 in October 2023 to complete the detailed engineering design.
