Position Title: Marketing & Tourism Assistant

Reports To: Marketing Manager

Summary: The Marketing & Tourism Assistant is responsible for assisting in the planning,
organization, development and publicity of tourism and marketing initiatives. He or she will also
perform administrative and professional duties in the operation of the Visitor Information Centre,
municipal websites and marketing functions. The Marketing & Tourism Assistant will assist in the
creative creation of promotional materials for the Tourism and Marketing departments, and in
support of other municipal departments where required. She/he assists in short-term and long-term
planning of promotional initiatives and events that support the community and its tourism
programming.

 

Duties:

• Design social media posts, from creative to copywrite and maintain social media
schedule.
• Assist in planning, organization, development, publicity, and evaluation of tourism and city
programs and events.
• Respond to general requests for information from potential visitors.
• Assist with public relations related to municipal and tourism initiatives.
• Assist in the production and maintenance of promotional materials, including the Municipal and
Tourism Websites, Digital Boards, Printed Materials, Signage, etc.
• Assist in tracking progress, maintaining records to evaluate the success of tourism initiatives,
projects, events, statistics and finances.
• Maintain records, prepare reports, and compose correspondence relative to the work.

• Provide direct administrative and office management support to the marketing manager, as
directed by verbal or written instruction.
• Review documents and copyright for format, content, grammar, and spelling; make edits as
necessary.
• Receive inbound telephone calls, e-mails, and visitors to the marketing and tourism departments
and respond when able.
• Upon request, provide assistance in research, development, and implementation of new marketing
programs.
• Provide assistance with advertising and promotional materials, social media advertising,
communication strategy, all other aspects related to marketing.
• Able to accept and post payments for purchases, balance cash and cash out at end of
shift.
• Able to promote the City of Estevan and entice visitors to attend activities/events offered in
the city.
• Creation of storyboards and advertising of special events.
• Assist in on-site events operations.

Education
• 2-year diploma in Marketing, Public Relations, or applicable field.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Suite.
• Proficiency with WordPress, Adobe CC, Canva, etc.

Experience and Additional Requirements
• 1 year experience in Tourism/Marketing preferred.
• Strong customer service skills and knowledge of public interests and social/cultural knowledge
using customer needs based approach.
• Solid interpersonal skills. Able to respond to customer requests tactfully, diplomatically, and
professionally at all times.
• Professional appearance and manners.
• Strong knowledge of social media management and design skills.
• Photography and videography skills an asset.
• Strong knowledge of Adobe CC, Canva, etc.
• Strong knowledge of Social Media Management tools.
• Ability to maintain favorable public relations.
• Good grammar skills, accuracy, and attention to detail.
• Commitment to working in a team environment, with established team building abilities.
• Possession of a valid Class 5 driver’s license and a clean driving record.
• Knowledge of the methods, techniques, and requirements for the maintenance and upkeep of
Wordpress websites.

• Excellent time management and project management skills.
• High level of sound and independent judgment and reasoning.
• Strong work ethic- punctual, dedicated, work focused and productive during each shift.
• Positive team attitude-Works well with others, supportive to others, meets daily and weekly
goals.
• Flexible availability-able to accept shifts to meet business needs.

Salary

This position receives an hourly wage of $31.25/Hour, as per 2022 CUPE rates.
