The second edition of the Tourism Estevan Culinary month just wrapped up, and we’re pleased to announce the winners! Throughout the year, restaurants participated in a feature item putting their spin on the dish and made it available for the month of April.
“We were thrilled by the unique dishes brought to the table with this event,” points out Rebecca Westling, destination marketing and communication consultant. “The dishes were delicious, had variety, and the response from the community was remarkable.
The votes were close and spread evenly throughout all eight participants, but Michaels Coffee Shop and Bakery Estevan earned the top spot for all three categories.”
Categories were ‘presentation and appearance,’ ‘originality and uniqueness,’ and ‘overall taste.’
Two hundred eighty-one voters cast a vote, and the lucky winner of the $500 Shop Estevan gift card was randomly drawn. The winner was Megan Vanstone of Estevan.
On hearing the results of the contest Michael Ellis, owner of Michaels, said, “This is fantastic news; we had fun creating this new dish and adding it to our menu; the feedback we’ve had from the community is remarkable.”
The winners of each category won a $200.00 donation to a charity of their choice. Michaels will be donating to; Estevan Public Youth Centre, Kenosse Lake Bible Camp and the Estevan Bible Camp.
When asked who he will be contributing to, Ellis explained, “All three organizations are dedicated to providing safe, healthy activity and community for the young people in the southeast.”
Culinary Month will continue in the fall.
