Rise and shine it’s fishing time

This weekend is a great weekend to get out and go ice fishing in Saskatchewan! Why? Because this it’s FREE FISHING WEEKEND!

January and February seem like the coldest months of the year in Saskatchewan but it shouldn’t stop us from going outside. Let’s embrace it!

Dress warmly

Here are some winter dressing steps which are uniquely specific to a Saskatchewan winter.

  1. Start with base layers
  2. Wear a warm windproof outer shell
  3. Leather mitts and lined touques are a must
  4. Thick pair of socks – Merino wool is great!
  5. Top off your outer layers with a windproof, waterproof jacket

Pictured above is a family get-together we had last year on Rafferty Dam Reservoir. We cooked hot dogs on a fire, had skidoo’s out on the ice and fished the day away! I didn’t end up catching anything, but the experience of being on the ice with family was just as great.

You don’t have to spend tons of money to get out and fish, all you really need is an ice fishing rod, pale, auger and bait.

Fish on!
