Calming the Chaos with Art

Growing up, I never was an artsy kind of gal; my twin sister Taylor inherited that all. I’m not the best at making art or doing art DIY projects, BUT I still admire seeing it and thinking, wow, someone created this with their own two hands. It’s a whole different experience when you’re looking at it in person and a great spot to see art is at the Estevan Art Gallery & Museum.

The first exhibit, “Fabricated Nature” by Cheryl Andrist and Marilynn Malo had me feeling in awe. The detail that goes into these quilts was unreal and I found myself saying to myself, yes that’s a QUILT.  Walking through the exhibit in silence was relaxing and calmed me from the chaos in the outside world. It reset my chi and made me focus on what’s in front of me.

Walking into the second exhibit, I saw a room scattered full of dandelions!! The exhibit, “Context is Everything” by Monique Martin is like walking in a glacier meadow. I noticed not all of the dandelions are yellow and bright but some are damaged and seedless. I’m not going to share the why but as your read the pamphlet about this exhibit, you will have a better understanding of why.

These exhibits were a definite mood booster! They are at the Art Gallery from November 20th, 2020 – January 15th, 2021. The Museum is open Monday – Friday 10:00 am – 6:00 pm.

Until next time.
