The City of Estevan is ready to change over the water intake from Boundary Dam Reservoir to Rafferty Reservoir. This change over will ensure will help safeguard the environment and improve the quality of water for residents who access city utilities.
On Monday, August 10th, Residents will notice drinking water may be unclear for several days. Discoloured water is common when switching water sources and is due to the changeover and flushing of lines throughout reservoirs and lines. If you notice a change in your water, please run taps for 15 – 20 minutes to flush the line. If the problem persists, call City Hall at 306-634-1800.
Residents will also notice that water quality will be considerably less hard, which will reduce wear on water heaters, faucets and plumbing. Settings on home water softeners will need to be changed to a 250mg/L or 17 grain/gal hardness level. If you are unsure of how to adjust your softener, please check your manual or contact a plumber.
