Estevan, SK (March 18, 2020, 5:30 PM) – This morning, the City of Estevan Emergency Measures Organization (EMO) met to discuss the COVID-19 Emergency Response plan. Each agency involved has developed and, in some cases, implemented their pandemic response plan.
The City of Estevan and area does NOT have any confirmed or presumptive cases coming from the Sask Health Authority.
COVID-19 is having a significant impact on our lives, and we must focus on self-care at this critical time. It is essential to take preventive measures such as ensuring you have an adequate supply of your medications and practice good personal hygiene, cough etiquette, hand hygiene, and social distancing to reduce close contact with others during the pandemic period.
Best practices include:
- An awareness of how the virus can be transmitted (visit the Canadian Health Authority website for information https://www.canada.ca/en/public-health/services/diseases/coronavirus-disease-covid-19.html)
- Practice social distancing – two meters
- Ensure you are using proper hand and respiratory hygiene methods
- Ensure routine cleaning practices using bleach or disinfectant of some type
We want to remind residents not to put anything but human waste and toilet paper in the sewer system, which includes disinfectant wipes, paper towels, rubber gloves and feminine products; our wastewater plant has trouble processing them. They need to be disposed of in the garbage.
Please don’t panic if you are not able to get through 811. There is a Self Assessment Tool and additional resources such as how to self isolate, for your reference on the Government of Saskatchewan website at https://www.saskatchewan.ca/government/health-care-administration-and-provider-resources/treatment-procedures-and-guidelines/emerging-public-health-issues/2019-novel-coronavirus
In an effort to minimize anxiety, we need to care for one another, don’t hoard and follow recommendations from Health Canada and the Government of Saskatchewan; this means that we all need to adhere to the advice they provide us. Doing so will ensure everyone’s well being.
