The Health and Safety of the Community is Priority

ESTEVAN, SK – With 2019 Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) at the top-of-mind for many individuals, The City of Estevan has developed a plan to ensure that all essential municipal services will remain intact, should Provincial/National Health Authorities declare an outbreak of the virus in our region.

Mayor Roy Ludwig shared, “During these uncertain times related to COVID-19, the City of Estevan is following the recommendations and lead of the Saskatchewan Health Authority. We are in contact with organizations to coordinate all efforts to communicate important information, and to make any necessary changes to protect our citizens and staff as situations continue to unfold.”

The City’s essential services that are considered necessary for the health and well-being of the community’s residents and will not have any disruption, they include:

  • Utilities
  • Water & Wastewater
  • Fire Department
  • Police Services

“All public buildings will remain open, but rest assured the health and safety of our community is of the utmost importance, and the situation is continually being assessed. We have increased our cleaning program in all facilities, and we wish to remind residents and staff to stay home if you are sick,  practice social distancing, practice good hand hygiene and coughing and sneezing etiquette.

In regards to events hosted in the city such as City Wide Registration, Council meetings and any other significant events and programs hosted at our facilities are all under evaluations; we will keep you updated on any changes as they occur.”

Mayor Ludwig and Council wish to express that this planning effort is an exercise in due diligence and not a cause for alarm. We do have an emergency measure pandemic plan in place and are following the provincial model for Health and Safety for our community.  At this time, the Public Health Agency of Canada has assessed the public health risk associated with COVID-19 as low for the general population in Canada.“

“We continue to be encouraged by the information we receive, along with all Canadians, from the Public Health Agency of Canada, with regards to the limited spread of the virus in Canada.”
