GAME ON!

We are a competitive bunch in the Visitor Centre regardless of skill level. So when Becky asked Maddie and I if we wanted to play pickleball, there was no hesitation. None of us had played prior to this game but that didn’t stop the trash talking and bets.

Becky and Carrie (fitness instructor) vs Denille and Maddie.

“Clear eyes, full hearts, can’t lose”, except we did lose. Maddie and I lost big time – because as you all know… #mummawins.

In the process of serving, which I did fairly well at!

Pickleball is a paddle sport (similar to a racquet sport) that combines elements of badminton, tennis, and table tennis. Two or four players use solid paddles made of wood or composite materials to hit a perforated polymer ball, similar to a whiffle ball, over a net.

Fun Fact: One of the creators of the sport had a cocker spaniel named Pickles. Pickles would chase the ball and take off with it, thus becoming ‘Pickle’s ball!’

In Pickleball there is a 7-foot, no-volley zone, on either side of the net to prevent ‘spiking’ of the ball. But that didn’t stop Maddie though – Becky is such a stickler on the rules!  I shouldn’t complain about my partner because I had a very tough time grasping the fact the ball had to bounce once after the service.

If you are interested in joining the Pickleball Club, contact Wendy & Garth at 306-636-2198, or Pat at 306-421-2065. You will be able to meet others who enjoy the sport (like myself).

Next on our list is “Frolf” (frisbee golf) or disc golf. We’ve never played that either.

Becky – 1
Maddie – 0
Denille – 0
